A virtually immaculate 1988 Peugeot 205 GTI 1.6 with just 38,872 kilometres, entirely in its original factory paint and acquired directly from its second owner. An exceptionally original example with a documented history.
On 17 October 1988, this Peugeot 205 GTI was supplied new by Peugeot-Talbot-dealer Établissements Grimaud S.A. in Carpentras, Southern France, to its first owner, Mrs Françoise Catalin. She used the car very sparingly and always treated it with great care. The Peugeot was always kept in a garage, protected not only from adverse weather conditions but also from direct sunlight. The dry climate around Carpentras, where the famous Mistral wind regularly blows, has also contributed to the car’s excellent original condition.
In 2021, Mr Santoni, who also lived in Carpentras, learned of this rarely used Peugeot. After some time, he succeeded in persuading Mrs Catalin to sell him the car. The original agreement, signed by both parties on 31 January 2022, is present and records the mileage at just 36,570 kilometres.
Following his purchase, Mr Santoni had the necessary mechanical work carried out to make the Peugeot fully roadworthy again after an extended period of limited use. This included fitting four new Michelin tyres. In total, more than €3,000 was spent, with the corresponding invoices present.
The bodywork remains entirely in its original paint, showing only minimal signs of use. We have had several small parking dents professionally removed. Only a small dent on the right-hand corner of the tailgate could not be completely eliminated. Apart from this, there are just a few minor scratches on the rear bumper and left-hand sill. All plastic components and exterior trim are undamaged. The chassis and entire underside are immaculate and completely rust-free. The engine bay is equally impressive and remains untouched. The interior, protected by seat covers until 2022, shows hardly any signs of wear. The original seat upholstery, dashboard, door panels and remaining interior components are all in excellent condition.
The original Peugeot document wallet containing all accompanying handbooks, several French roadworthiness inspection reports and invoices for the work carried out are present.
A Peugeot 205 GTI in such an exceptional state of originality is an absolute rarity on today’s market.
